E. Bhoje Gowd (born 10 June 1974) is an Indian polymer scientist and a Chief Scientist at the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST).[1] He is also an associate Professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).[2] His research focuses on polymer crystallization, biodegradable polymers, nanocomposites, crystal engineering, gels, and aerogels.[3][4]
Education and career
[edit]Gowd earned his Master's degree in Polymer Science and Technology from Sri Krishnadevaraya University. He completed his doctoral research at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) under the supervision of C. Ramesh.[5]
Following his Ph.D., he conducted postdoctoral research[6][self-published source?] in Kohji Tashiro's group at Toyota Technological Institute.[7] In 2007, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to work with Manfred Stamm at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research in Germany.[8] In 2009, he joined Subramaniam Ramakrishnan’s group at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) as a Centenary Postdoctoral Fellow.[9][irrelevant citation][10][failed verification]
In 2011, Gowd joined NIIST as a SERB Ramanujan Fellow and later held various positions, including Senior Scientist. He was eventually promoted to the rank of a Chief Scientist.[1][11][unreliable source?]
Awards and honours
[edit]Gowd has received several awards and recognitions for his contributions to polymer science, including:
- Bronze Medal, Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) (2024)[12]
- Professor Kaushal Kishore Memorial Award, Society for Polymer Science, India (2018)[13]
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), under the "Leaders in the Field" category (2020)[14]
- Pioneering Investigator of Polymer Chemistry, Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) (2019)[15]
- MRSI Medal, Materials Research Society of India (MRSI) (2016)[16][17]
